Hair Solutions During Medical Treatment
Chemotherapy, radiation, and certain medications cause hair loss, sometimes quickly, sometimes gradually. We work with patients in active treatment and recovery, building systems that are lightweight, breathable, and designed around sensitive scalps and unpredictable timelines. If you want to look like yourself during treatment, we can make that happen. If you'd rather wait, we're here when you're ready.
Understanding Medical Hair Loss
Chemotherapy: Chemo drugs attack rapidly dividing cells, including hair follicles. Hair loss typically begins 2-3 weeks into treatment and can be partial or complete. Most hair regrows within 3-6 months after treatment ends, though texture and color may change.
Radiation: Radiation directed at the head or scalp can damage follicles, sometimes permanently. Hair loss is localized to the treatment area. Recovery depends on dose and can take months.
Medications: Blood thinners, blood pressure medications, antidepressants, and immunosuppressants can trigger hair loss. Severity varies, and sometimes switching medications helps.

Common Causes
Chemotherapy Drugs
Radiation Therapy
Damages follicles in the treatment area, sometimes permanently. Recovery depends on dose.
Medications
Blood pressure medications, antidepressants, anticoagulants, and other drugs list hair loss as a side effect.
Autoimmune & Systemic Conditions
Nutritional Deficiency
Medical conditions and treatments can impair nutrient absorption, starving hair follicles.
Hormonal Shifts
Medical treatments can disrupt hormonal balance, affecting hair growth cycles.

What to Expect
Your first visit is a private, no-pressure consultation. We ask what matters most to you right now: comfort, security, looking like yourself. Then we recommend solutions that fit your actual situation.
We keep appointments short and flexible. We know energy is precious. We prioritize breathability and comfort because you're managing enough already. And we work around your treatment schedule, adjusting as your body changes throughout your medical journey.
Have Questions?
We Have Answers.
When should I come in relative to my treatment?
Ideally before treatment begins. We can build your system early so it's ready when you need it. But we work with patients at any stage, including mid-treatment and post-treatment.
Will a system irritate my scalp during treatment?
We use lighter, softer materials for patients in active treatment and prioritize breathability. If your scalp becomes sensitive, we adjust or pause. You set the pace.
What if my hair grows back differently after treatment?
Common. Regrowth is often a different texture or color. Your system bridges that transition period while new growth establishes and you decide next steps.
How long are appointments?
We keep them short and flexible. We know energy is limited during treatment, so we work efficiently and around your schedule.
Does insurance cover hair systems for medical hair loss?
We recommend contacting your health insurance provider to inquire about coverage for medical wigs. Unique Hair Concepts does not bill insurance directly; however, we can provide the necessary invoice and documentation for you to submit for potential reimbursement.
Do I have to wear the system all the time?
No. Some patients wear systems for specific situations (work, events, photos) and go without other times. It's entirely up to you.
