Unique Hair Concepts is proud to announce their collaboration with noted fashion model, Jeana Turner. Since the age of 10, Jeana has been living with alopecia areata, an auto-immune condition that attacks hair cells resulting in hair loss. Alopecia areata causes patchy hair loss throughout the scalp and/or other places of the body.
The National Alopecia Areata Foundation estimates that up to 7 million Americans are diagnosed with alopecia areata in the U.S. As with other types of auto-immune conditions alopecia areata is not specific to any age or gender.
“I was formally introduced to Jeana through makeup artist, Anya Sinclair”, explains Flora Fuentes, founder of Unique Hair Concepts. I also knew of Jeana’s story because my daughter and I watched America's Next Top Model. We fell in love with Jeana’s determination and confidence. America’s Next Top Model is a reality television series in which a number of aspiring models compete for the title of “Top Model”. Jeana was so open about living with alopecia that she competed throughout most of the series with a shaved head. Ultimately, Jeana finished the competition as first runner-up.
“After Jeana and I were introduced, I thought she would be perfect to showcase our UHC Signature Hair Prosthesis,” says Flora. As a professional model, Jeana works with or without wigs based on the project or assignment. Unlike a traditional wig, our UHC Signature Hair Prosthesis is made to custom fit the wearer seamlessly. I personally flew out to Las Vegas to take Jeana’s custom measurements. Those measurements were then shipped to the lab we work with in Milan, Italy. I decided to order 3 different prosthetics to showcase the versatility in hairstyles that may be achieved with our Signature Hair. UHC’s Signature Hair Prosthesis is made with 100% healthy human hair and custom-fitted for the wearer to live their most active lives. Our guests may wash, style, and wear their hair in any hairstyle they choose. On average, guests return to the center once a month for follow-up maintenance.
Once the prosthetics arrived at the center, one of our master stylists added beautiful balayage highlights to complement Jeana’s facial features. On April 27th, Jeana flew out to New York for our photo and video shoot. We cut in and applied the prosthetics. The first look was long and flowing hair with beautiful blonde highlights. The second consisted of bouncy, voluminous waves with soft, warm undertones of color. The last look was more rock and roll with a faux-hawk style. The team and I had a blast creatively working with Jeana. She is a true professional and is presently enjoying wearing one of our prosthetics.
